Dear council(man/woman) _____________,
I am sad to hear of the recent efforts to remove the Triumph of Civic Virtue from the grounds of Queens Borough Hall in Kew Gardens. It is an original MacMonnies sculpture, a first-rate work of art by any measure. It reflects very poorly on us as residents of Queens and educated men and women that the city has allowed it to languish for so long.
Public art belongs to all of us. It is presumptuous to try to erase the borough’s rich heritage. History does not remember those who tear down public art favorably. Queens deserves better. Please support the Triumph of Civic Virtue’s restoration in its current home.
I stand with triumphofcivicvirtue.org.
